Number Porting
Can I transfer my old number to my new phone?
Yes, number porting is a simple procedure and available when you are changing network providers. Please note: Unfortunately you are not able to port to Talkmobile after connection. If you would like to port your number to Talkmobile from another network, this needs to be done at point of sale. You cannot currently port your number if you are remaining on the same network. If you wish to keep your number and stay on your current network you need to choose one of our Upgrade deals.
Transferring your number requires following a simple three step process:
- Before ordering your new phone you will need to contact your current network provider (the company your contract is with) and ask for a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC).The issuing of a PAC number acts as an official cancellation request with your current provider.
- Order your new phone with Mobiles.co.uk. When it arrives you will be supplied a new (in this case temporary) number which you can use in the interim.
- Once you receive your phone you will need to contact the customer service department of your new network and give them your PAC number. The network will then arrange port dates with your old network, and on the agreed date your number will be moved across.
How long does the process take?
When obtaining a PAC number, your existing network provider is obligated to supply it to you within 2 working days providing you have fulfilled the minimum term of your contract. It will then be valid for 30 days from the date of issue. Once you have passed on your PAC number, the transfer will normally take a minimum of 2 days. However, some networks like Vodafone require up to 7 days, so it is worth checking with the network you are moving to before hand.
Can I still port my number if I'm moving from Pay-As-You-Go?
If you are moving to another network then you can transfer your pay-as-you-go number to a contract phone in exactly the same way as normal number porting but it is advisable to use up all remaining credit before hand as this will not be transferred along with your number.
Will keeping my existing number affect my cashback deal?
No, you can still claim discounted line rental if you have discarded your new number in favour of your existing one as long as this number is quoted on your network bills. However, please let us know your new number so we can update our records.
It is important that you do not cancel your current mobile phone contract until you have been given your PAC number and passed it on to your new network. If you do so you will miss the opportunity to transfer your old number across. PAC numbers are free to obtain and can only be issued by your current provider.
