Android Operating System
The HTC runs on the Android operating system, developed in part by Google. Downloadable applications, full customisation and support for Google sevices such as Google Maps, G-Mail and Google Search are all Possible with Android. The HTC Magic runs the latest version of Android, known as Cupcake, meaning that it dispenses with a hardware keyboard in favour of an on screen one which helps to keep size and weight down.
Touchscreen
The HTC Magic features a crystal clear 3.2 inch TFT touchscreen display. Use your fingers or the stylus to navigate through menus. The Magic even has a built in accelerometer which automatically rotates the screen to match how the phone is held plus handwriting recognition for quick and easy texts and emails.
3G
The G2 Google Phone features 3G which stands for third generation, and the system is the third generation in the evolution of mobile networks, after analogue and GSM. 3G offers high speed data transfers and the ability to make video calls between compatible mobile phones.
HSDPA
HSDPA offers a similar benefit to a 3G network that GPRS offered to the GSM networks. It offers a higher speed data transfer with a compatible handset. HSDPA is often referred to as Mobile Broadband.
Wi-Fi
With Wi-Fi you can use your HTC phone to connect to a local wireless network (W-LAN) to connect to the internet. This offers a cheap (sometimes free) method of connecting to the net to download emails, files, or check on your favourite website.
GPS
With built in GPS you can use the Magic to locate your position, plan your journey, and as a general SatNav device, when used in conjunction with compatible mapping software.
Web Browser
With a built in Web Browser you can access internet sites directly from your handset. Check the latest scores, look up train times, get a weather report, or find the answer to the question in the pub quiz. With the inbuilt web browser you have the power of the internet with you, wherever you are.
3.2 Megapixel Camera
Thanks to a built in 3.2 megapixel camera, with auto focus, the Google phone takes quality pictures that you will want to share with your friends. Store them in your phone, email them to friends or upload them to your blog.
Bluetooth v2.0
Thanks to Bluetooth wireless technology, data transmission is quick and easy. And what's more, with Bluetooth wireless printing, sending images or documents to a compatible printer is child's play wherever you are, allowing you to produce quality printouts effortlessly.
Music Player
With a built in music player, you can carry your tunes with you, in your pocket, and listen to them when you want. Most digital formats are recognised on the phone, including MP3 and AAC.
Email Client
The HTC Magic has an email client, which will allow you to receive email from your own personal email account, and send pictures, videos or text emails to any email account anywhere in the world. Email access on the phone is simple to set up and a cost effective way of keeping in touch.
The HTC Magic is an Android powered mobile created to turn heads with its stylish design and advanced features. The touchscreen Magic offers familiar Google services such as G-Mail, Search and Google Maps. Find a restaurant with Google Search or check a specific location thanks to Google Maps Street View. Running the latest version of the Android OS known as Cupcake, the Magic offers an on screen QWERTY keyboard, faster applications and a more responsive all round experience. The Magic also features a 3.2 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity plus GPS.
ME - West Sussex-19/08/2009 I swapped my HTC Touch Diamond 2 for this phone, although the Touch Diamond 2 is an amazing phone in it's own right, I'm not keen on using a stylus all the time and the phone is more suited towards business users. Now on to the Magic, it just looks great, although the outer casing should have been made of tougher material, I've had no complaints with mine so far. The touch screen is to die for, very smooth and responsive. Running the Android operating system from Google is just great, beats the current Windows interface on other HTC models in many ways and is just generally more pleasurable to use. The apps market for Android is also great, sporting many free apps which are just so handy. Ease of use couldn't be better really, you can drag and drop widgets to where you want them across the 3 screens and then just bin them if you want to replace/or move them elsewhere. As it's an Android phone, Google synchronisations is brilliant throughout, watching and uploading photos and videos is so easy. Only gripe with the phone is the pretty naffy 3.2 mp camera which is "okay" for basic pics but 5.0 should really be the basic standard now. All in all the best phone I've had so far!
