National One2one Coverage by 1997

One2one have recently awarded a major (£235 million) contract to the cellular manufacturer Ericsson. The ultimate fruits of this contract will be national coverage for the One2one network by 1997. The new coverage map shows expansion due by Dec 95 to 40% of the population, Dec 96 shows 60% and Dec 97 is 90% of the UK population which in cellular terms is national coverage.

The next phase of sites due on air October 95 includes the south coast. Expanded coverage will include the M3 to Southampton and then down to Swanage. The south cost will be covered from Brighton to Poole and then North along the A24 and A23 to the existing service area.

Between October and Dec 95 new sites will also be in service extending coverage to Andover, Newbury, Eversham and parts of the M5 by Worcester, M6 from J 12 to J30 around Blackburn extending coverage to Manchester, Bolton, Crewe and Stoke on Trent.

By Dec 96 Coverage will extend to fill the rest of the South coast from Eastbourne to Margate and the M20, this will include Tunbridge, Hastings, Heathfield, Dymchurch, Folkstone, Canterbury, Faversham. The M11 will be covered to Cambridge and Colchester. The M4, M5 and M1 will be enhanced providing contiguous coverage from Bristol to Birmingham and the M1 from Rugby to Leeds including the M18 and M62 and York.

By Dec 97 Coverage will grow to include S-East Wales, East Anglia and the East coast to Scotland. The M6, A6 and M74 will give continues coverage to Glasgow, Ayr, Troon, Irvine, Largs, Dumbarton, Stirling and along the A9 to Perth and M90 to Cowdenbeath and Edinburgh. Coverage along the East cost will include Dunbar, North Sunderland, Blyth, Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, Durham, Hartlepool, Scarbourgh, Kingston upon Hull, Cleethorpes and Skegness.
