The Motorola monte carlo is an excellent Motorola dual-band phone. The handset is significantly smaller and lighter than its earlier cousin, the International 8800. This is due in part to its use of a lithium-ion battery rather than the older technology NiMH batteries.
The biggest difference between the two phones is that the new monte carlo has automatic dual band roaming. This means that the phone seamlessly locks onto a signal without having to be physically switched to a different frequency like the older phone.
Several other enhancements have also been made. The monte carlo features a unique VoiceNotes feature enabling users to record and play back up to 3 minutes of speech whether on a call or not. The VibraCall feature alerts users to an incoming call without making a sound.
