Enjoy hidden powers...
At first glance there may be little to separate the Nokia 6230i from the 6230 apart from the vastly improved joystick, but scratch the surface and there are some surprising and very worthwhile improvements. The key differences are in the imaging capabilities, both in terms of pictures you take and the display you look at. There is now a
1.3 megapixel camera on-board and the phone's display now has two and half times the number of pixels than the 6230.
Shh! Listen to my phone!
The Nokia 6230i is also a music player supporting formats including MP3 and AAC, which can even be used as ringtones! The built in 32Mb of memory can be expanded to up to 512Mb, and there is even an FM radio built in!
Built-in Digital Camcorder
The new
Nokia 6230i on O2 is not only a phone - it's also an integrated digital imaging device. Point, use the colour display as a viewfinder, snap a picture, and share the moment. An image editor enables you to add text, frames and clip-art images. The handset also offers what Nokia calls "Portrait image caller ID". This means you have the option of seeing a pre-set picture of the person who's calling you. However, the real show stopper is the camcorder facility built in which allows recording of moving pictures and sound using the 3GPP specification. Furthermore you can playback video in this format, or the popular MP4 format.
A Design Classic
The
O2 Nokia 6230i is the latest advance of Nokia's business orientated phones, so it has a more subtle and classic design. However, Xpress-On covers are available so you can still personalise how your phone looks by changing the outer casing.
Email
The preinstalled java email client allows you to send and receive emails using just your phone. It is compatible with any POP3 email account.
Mobile Internet
Incorporating the latest WAP 2.0 browser technology for mobile internet, you can use WAP to access a range of information from the Internet, via your mobile, including news, travel and information. The X-HTML browser is capable of displaying richer more interesting content than just a normal WAP browser can. Thanks to Java support you can download additional applications to further enhance your phone's capabilities.

GPRS & EDGE
As the O2 Nokia 6230i supports GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), you will be able to take advantage of this virtually permanent data connection, and you will only be charged for the amount of data that you transfer, and not the amount of time that you're online. It is also the first phone available with EDGE support, which as an upgrade to GPRS networks allows significantly faster data transfer. (As yet no UK's networks support this).
Colour screen!
The introduction of colour screens has greatly improved mobile phone displays, but not all colour displays are equal. The O2 Nokia 6230i uses a brand new high-resolution 65k TFT colour display with 208 x 208 pixels bringing high quality viewing for the first time to a Nokia phone of this size.
Pop-PortTM Interface..
The
O2 Nokia 6230i mobile phone includes the now standard Pop-Port accessory interface connector. There is a huge range of compatible accessories including modular car-kits, which assists with future compatibility.
The USB connectivity has been enhanced as this now supports plug and play connectivity without the need to install drivers to enable you to do regular tasks such as file transfers from PC to phone.
Push to talk
Push-to-talk Over Cellular is a new standard which will allow groups of mobile phone users to communicate with each other simply by pushing a button and speaking, just like a walkie talkie. It's ideal for groups of friends or certain business applications to communicate with more than one person simultaneously. As the Nokia 6230i supports this new feature it will be ready to use as soon as the networks' in the UK introduce it.
