Review of the Carbon Nokia 8800
At Mobiles.co.uk we have been lucky enough to get our hands on the latest in the Nokia 8800 range, the Nokia Carbon Arte before its official launch early next month so we thought we would let you know our personal opinions on the much anticipated fashion mobile phone.
The 8800 Carbon Arte is a solid & strong slider handset which has been beautifully crafted from carbon fibre, titanium, stainless steel and polished glass. This magnificent 3G phone comes with a two inch screen which has a 320 pixel by 240 pixel screen resolution & displays up to sixteen million colours on the OLED screen. It is the third in the series of 8800's which also boast the Nokia 8800 Arte and the Sapphire Arte, motivated by architecture, aerospace and sports cars, the first class minded engineers of Nokia have used these materials to reflect a modern feel through the unique tones, textures and sculpted shapes that carbon fibre and titanium can deliver.
On first impression it has to be said that the 8800 Carbon, with its seamless surface and substantial weight is an amazing feat of engineering, whose build quality is second to none. I literally sat and slid the phone open and closed a good few times in sheer amazement, admiring at its smooth movement and airtight closed state, it almost feels unbreakable. Functionality wise it has also succeeded its predecessors with an upgraded 4GB flash memory and a greatly improved resistance to finger prints. Another advantage is that in a closed position, you can still use the phone via the navigation and call keys however this does mean that you will have to remember to lock the phone every time you put it in your bag/pocket.
One of the few features that the Carbon has adopted from the previous Arte's is the turn-to-mute silencing mechanism which lets you silence incoming calls by turning the mobile phone over on to its face which is a very clever and convenient idea. Nokia also include this feature in the upcoming Nokia 6600 Slide which benefits from a similarly luxurious design and build quality. Another two of the features are organic wallpapers that transform throughout the day and the unique tap for time feature whereby you simply give the screen a quick double tap and a big clock appears to let you know the time, both of which combine into an improved striking OLED display. A microUSB connecter, Bluetooth 2.0, WAP, MP3 player and 3.2 megapixel camera equipped with standard camera and video functions complete the feature list.
For people in its target audience this beautiful handset has exactly what it takes to become your most beloved possession. It's a stunning offering that has all the makings of a luxury item, plus it's been designed by one of the world's leading phone makers in Nokia. All these things put the Carbon Arte above all other fashion-savvy offerings out there and if you're not scared of the extremely high price tag of around £500 then there really is no alternative.
