3.7 inch AMOLED Touchsceen!
The Samsung Omnia 2 features an incredible 3.7 inch AMOLED Touchscreen capable of displaying 480 x 800 pixels for one of the sharpest and brightest mobile phone screens ever. The use of AMOLED technology over traditional LCD displays makes for a slimmer construction and better battery life. The Samsung Omnia II features TouchWiz for customiasable widgets on the home screen and an accelerometer which rotates the screen and offers motion sensitive navigation and handwriting recognition.
Windows Mobile 6.5
The Samsung Omnia 2 runs on Windows Mobile 6.5, the latest version of Microsoft's smart phone operating system. With the new upgrade, Windows Mobile is given a new user friendly interface that lets users access all their favourite content from the homescreen. Windows Mobile includes Pocket Office which lets users open and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents, can run multiple applications at once and can download and install new apps from Windows Marketplace to further enhance the user experience.
5.0 Megapixel Camera
Including a built in 5.0 megapixel camera with auto focus, face, smile and blink detection and an LED flash. the Samsung i8000 on Orange takes quality pictures that you will want to share with your friends. Store them in your phone, email them to friends or upload them to your blog.
HSDPA
HSDPA offers a similar benefit to a 3G network that GPRS offered to the GSM networks. It offers a higher speed data transfer with a compatible handset. HSDPA is often referred to as Mobile Broadband.
Wi-Fi
With Wi-Fi you can use your Samsung phone on Orange to connect to a local wireless network (W-LAN) to connect to the internet. This offers a cheap (sometimes free) method of connecting to the net to download emails, files, or check on your favourite website.
GPS
With built in GPS you can use the Samsung Omnia 2 to locate your position, plan your journey, and as a general Sat Nav device, when used in conjunction with compatible mapping software.
A-GPS
A-GPS is a network service that can locate your position to within 100 metres by using a clever technique called triangulation. By sending a signal to three cell masts, A-GPS will work out your location by the location of the cells and your distance from them. When combined with a GPS enabled mobile phone, the addition of A-GPS enables a faster GPS satellite lock.
Bluetooth 2.0
Bluetooth 2.0 is the next generation of Bluetooth connectivity. With Bluetooth 2.0 one of the biggest advantages is the possibility of listening to music with a compatible wireless headset in stereo. Less wires, less mess, more noise.
Java
Java is often a forgotten feature on many phones, and is probably used in many ways without you even realising. If you play games on your phone, it is likely they are java apps. But java is so much more than games. It allows you to add extra functionality to your handset by installing third party apps to the phone. Add email functionality with Gmail, add a web browser from Opera Mini, add a business directory with Yell.com or keep an eye on a new purchase on Ebay.
Music Player
With a built in music player, you can carry your tunes with you, in your pocket, and listen to them when you want. Most digital formats are recognised on the phone, including MP3 and AAC.
Web Browser
With a built in Dolfin Web Browser you can access internet sites directly from your handset. Check the latest scores, look up train times, get a weather report, or find the answer to the question in the pub quiz. With the inbuilt web browser you have the power of the internet with you, wherever you are.
The Samsung Omnia 2 is a touchscreen mobile phone with a vivid AMOLED display. The 3.7 inch screen uses resistive technology and is capable of displaying 480 x 800 pixels for one of the brightest and sharpest mobile phone screens ever. The Omnia II is a HSDPA and Wi-Fi enabled phone GPS and a 5.0 Megapixel camera.
JN - Barrow-in-Furness-01/02/2010 I have had my Omnia 2 for 3 months and would not swap it for any other! The screen is superb for looking at high-res photos, videos play well on it, and it is by far the clearest phone screen on which to display Memory-Map with 1:25000 OS maps (although I sometimes find the GPS cannot find any satellites when I turn it on, but a reboot of the phone puts it right, and it then finds and gets a very accurate fix (within about 10 feet) from 8 or 9 satellites within 5-10 seconds). The built-in camera is the best I have seen on a phone, having some features my Fuji 'bridge' camera does not have. One little annoying point; to switch the screen off and lock the phone you have to press and hold a small key on the side of the phone. This is directly opposite the button which turns the sound down/off and switches to vibrate mode. Pressing the lock button whilst gripping the phone in the natural position results in inadvertently squeezing the other button and turning the sound off or switching to vibrate! I have had to reset the phone using the internal button a few times but this has happened mostly when I have just played a particular video on it, so I suspect it is the video rather than the phone that is causing it. Battery life is good - I top it up every 2 or 3 days (although at this point it is rarely showing below 60-70%), but it obviously depends how much you use it in a day. Overall an excellent phone packed with features and software and thoroughly recommended.
SU - UK-04/01/2010 The phone is really good if you have never had one like this, features are awesome, apps for windows mobile are expensive and it takes time to learn to use windows in the phone but you get used to it and it's worth it!
ER - UK-25/11/2009 Great phone! Ordered it one day, got it the next! The phone does so many things and is very impressive. Great screen and easy to use! The photos are great, the speakers great, video great , internet great! Overall its a great phone... a must have!
AW - Devon-17/11/2009 This is the best phone I have come across after researching all the phones including the ones about to release before Christmas 2009. Large easy to use screen with amazing display. Super fast processor which can handle anything at present with graphics accelerator for 3D games. Expandable memory and the millions of apps available for windows mobile which is running in the background. The sound quality is spot on and signal does not lose any reception. DVD quality video recording which is awesome. There are so many options on this phone so you can customise it how you want. Excellent for business and personal use - IT REALLY IS ALL IN ONE PHONE.
RJ - Slough-02/11/2009 What a fantastic experience. I had an Omnia 1 and this simply blows it away. Great screen and easy to use. I love the fact that I can view clips and full films in such high quality. Recommended.
MB - Watford-30/10/2009 Mark was really impressed with the new Windows Mobile operating system and the amazing 3.7 inch AMOLED touchscreen display on the Omnia 2. Read our full Samsung Omnia 2 review for the Mobiles.co.uk verdict.
