New Products Announced at Apple's 'Spring Loaded' 2021 Event
Taking place on 20 April 2021, Apple's Spring Loaded event introduced a host of previously unseen Apple tech to the world. A brand-new look for iMac, updates to Apple TV, an upgraded iPad Pro and the first ever AirTag were all revealed, alongside a few other exciting announcements.
To keep you up to date, here's everything you might’ve missed from Apple's spring event.
AirTag
A first for Apple, the AirTag is a small tracking device that works with Apple's existing Find My system. Available alone, or as a pack of four, AirTag is a foolproof way to keep track of your stuff.
A circular stainless-steel tracker powered by Bluetooth, it can easily be attached to items like keys, bags, coats are more. Anything you're likely to lose or misplace can benefit. Place your AirTag safely inside pockets, pouches or use Apple's range of accessories - which include a leather keyring and leather or polyurethane loop - and you're all set.
If you can't find an item with an AirTag on it, just open up the Find My app or ask Siri to help. Simply say "Hey Siri, find my wallet" for example, and if it's hiding somewhere nearby, you'll hear a sound. Follow the sound, and before you know it, you'll be reunited.
If you own an iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, or any of the iPhone 12 series handsets, you can also take advantage of Precision Finding. You'll be able see the distance between yourself and your AirTag, and with some help from Ultra Wideband technology, your iPhone will even let you know what direction to head in.
AirTags have an IP67 water and dust resistance rating, and feature user-replaceable batteries. They can also be customised with numerous laser-etched designs, including your initials, letters, emojis or a mix of both.
M1-powered iMac
The iMac has been reimagined for 2021, and after many years Apple has finally granted this all-in-one desktop a redesign. Inside and out, things have experienced an upgrade, with the cutting-edge M1 chip.
One upgrade you can’t miss, the iMac is now available in seven different colours. The streamlined, 11.5mm thin aluminium body comes in Apple's iconic silver, as well as green, yellow, orange, pink, purple and blue. You can even get matching accessories, like the new Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and more.
Each iMac has a stunning 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with TrueTone technology and weighs less than 5kg. Power connectors attach with magnets, you can join FaceTime calls in 1080p HD and the six-speaker sound system creates audio that really fills the room.
New iPad Pro
Apple's high-performance M1 chip can be found on the two new iPad Pro models - the 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. While the two models are extremely similar, the larger iPad Pro is the premium option, benefitting from a Liquid Retina XDR display with Apple's 2D backlighting system and ProMotion technology (replacing the Liquid Retina screen).
Both 2021 iPad models support the 2nd generation Apple Pencil and come with the Apple M1 chip and 16-core Neural Engine. Promising a 50% boost in performance, storage and connectivity specs have been upgraded too, to help this model keep up with Apple's Pro Motion technology and 5G support.
Both devices also use Apple's Pro camera system. The rear camera has a 12MP Wide lens and 10MP Ultra Wide Lens, with 4K video recording, Audio Zoom and photography features like Smart HDR 3 and Portrait mode with Depth Control.
Purple iPhone 12 and 12 Mini
As well as the big updates above, Apple made some other announcements during the Spring Loaded event. Following in the footsteps of iPhone 11, a new purple finish is now be available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini.
Apple also introduced Podcast subscriptions, set to start in May. Available in over 170 countries and regions, it can be accessed via the existing Podcast app. Premium subscriptions from curated creators will be added, with Apple announcing the likes of Sony Music Entertainment, the Los Angeles Times and more to be included. Podcast subscriptions will also unlock benefits like ad-free listening, extra content and more.
