Introducing Google Stadia

Introducing Google Stadia

Google Stadia is a cloud-based gaming service from Google, enabling users to play titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider and PUBG directly from their smartphones, laptop or TV. No console or downloads are required - you'll just need a compatible device and an internet connection.

Designed to making gaming more accessible, and to make it possible to play anywhere at any time, let's discover all the details about Google's new gaming service below.

What is Google Stadia?

With Google Stadia, you won't need to buy a new console (such as an Xbox One or PlayStation 4) to play your favourite titles. Instead, you'll simply need a strong Wi-Fi connection and a compatible device - such as a TV, laptop or smartphone - to use this cloud-based gaming platform.

Available in 14 different countries, games can be streamed live online. You don't need to wait around for each title to download first either - just select a game and get ready to play. It's all made possible by Google's powerful remote server, which transmits gameplay to your device in real-time, while simultaneously receiving instructions from your compatible Stadia controller.

How much is Google Stadia?

The Google Stadia platform is free to use - you just need to compatible screens and controllers to get started. However, when it comes to playing games, you'll have two different options: you can purchase an individual game for a set price, or access multiple games with a monthly Stadia Pro subscription.

Any new user can try out Google Stadia Pro for free by signing up to a one-month trial. After this trial has ended, you'll automatically become a member. A subscription will cost you £8.99 a month, and with an active membership you will be able to instantly access a catalogue of games, as well as enjoy exclusive discounts and the option to play in up to 4K HDR with 5.1 surround sound.

What do I need to use Google Stadia?

One of the most exciting things about Google Stadia is that you can now access PC-only games on a range of devices, including your TV and a huge selection of Android smartphones.

Currently, Google Stadia cannot be used with an iPhone. However, you can choose to download the app from the Apple App Store to set up and manage your account of compatible devices. This step is optional, and not essential to play.
