Following on from last year's 10th anniversary range, the newest iPhone generation was announced in September 2018 at Apple's highly anticipated launch event.

Comprising three brand new iPhones, we take a look at everything you need to know about iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.

iPhone XS and XS Max

Apple's latest flagship duo are named iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. As you'd expect, both handsets are jam-packed with innovative new tech and even offer users a handful of Apple firsts.

iPhone XS Design

Just like Apple's 'Plus' handsets from previous years, iPhone XS Max is iPhone XS's bigger brother. The two share many similarities and are available with either a silver, gold or space grey finish.

The only difference? iPhone XS Max has a much larger display at 6.5 inches, with a resolution of 2688 x 1242. Meanwhile, the iPhone XS features a 5.8 inch display and a resolution of 2426 x 1125.

Both handsets use Apple's ground-breaking Super Retina custom OLED technology to deliver true-to-life colour and exceptional brightness. Thanks to a pixel density of 458ppi, the new flagships can also claim the title of having the sharpest iPhone screens to date.

On top of this, the iPhone XS Max has the largest ever iPhone screen. At 6.5 inches, it's 0.7 inches bigger than iPhone X, but thanks to its edge-to-edge display, the handset is actually no larger than iPhone 8 Plus. Both are lightweight too, with iPhone XS Max weighing 208g and iPhone XS coming in at 177g.

This stunning iPhone pair also support wireless charging and are rated IP68 water resistant - meaning they can withstand depths of up to 2 metres of water for 30 minutes - an improvement on iPhone X's IP67 rating.

iPhone XS A12 Bionic chip

Prepare yourself for a seriously speedy, efficient performance all-day, every day with the XS and XS Max.

Housing an industry-first, the tiny 7-nanometre A12 Bionic chip is 15% faster than last year's A11 Bionic chip and uses 50% less battery power too. With a smart machine learning Neural Engine, iPhone XS and XS Max get faster as they learn how to make your phone experience more efficient. This A12 Bionic chip takes everything in its stride, even next-generation games and Augmented Reality content.

iPhone XS True Depth Camera

An updated version of Apple's breakthrough dual-lens camera can be found on iPhone XS and XS Max. The dual-lens rear camera measures 12MP and features a f/1.8 wide-angle lens and f/2.4 telephoto lens, while the front-facing TrueDepth camera provides 7MP for selfie lovers to play with.

The front-facing TrueDepth camera continues to intelligently track over 50 facial muscles, meaning Face ID, Animoji and the iOS12 exclusive feature Memoji are better than ever.

It's Apple's innovative features that really help iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max's camera offering to really stand out, however. The next-generation Neural Engine mentioned above enables iPhone XS and XS Max to handle processes such as Smart HDR and an enhanced version of Portrait Mode with ease. You'll nail the bokeh effect in your shots too, and Depth Control allows you to alter the depth of field even after you've pressed the shutter button.

An all-new, improved camera sensor also promises better low-light photos. With deeper, larger pixels you'll finally be able to capture amazing pictures in darker environments. Both iPhone XS and XS Max also support 4K video recording alongside louder speakers.

iPhone XR

iPhone XR is the most affordable handset of the new iPhone trio. It is intended as a successor to last year's iPhone X, which will now cease production to make way for the XR.

iPhone XR Design

At first glance, two key features are sure to catch your attention on iPhone XR. The first is the all-new Liquid Retina display, which Apple claim is the most advanced LCD to be used in the industry. In true iPhone fashion, you can expect nothing less than incredible, true-to-life colour from the 6.1-inch screen.

iPhone XR's display uses an innovative backlight to help the screen stretch right up into the corners of the handset. This means you're benefitting from a larger display, without increasing the size of the handset. iPhone XR is also easy on the pocket, weighing just 194g.

With 326 ppi (pixels per inch), a 1792 x 929 resolution and True Tone technology on board, you'll experience immersive movies and games on this device.

The second standout feature of iPhone XR has to be the numerous choice of colourful finishes. Perhaps taking inspiration from the previous iPhone 5C, iPhone XR is available in coral, blue, black, white and red, as a (PRODUCT)RED handset. As for the rest of the design, you'll find the most durable glass to ever be used on a smartphone on the front and back of iPhone XR, an anodised band made from aerospace-grade aluminium around the side, justifying an IP67 water and dust resistant rating.

iPhone XR A12 Bionic Chip

Under the hood, there's plenty of power. Fuelling iPhone XR is the all-new A12 Bionic chip - Apple's fastest and most powerful chip yet. This, combined with the all-new Neural Engine for enhanced machine learning means the XR can handle everything from graphics-heavy games to multi-tasking between numerous apps.

Apple fans can choose from three storage options: 64GB, 128GB or 256GB. Whichever you go for, you're sure to have plenty of room for of photos on the XR's amazing cameras.

iPhone XR True Depth camera

iPhone XR's boasts an advanced, single-lens 12MP rear camera which is supported by Apple's high-spec processors, sensors and on-board algorithms. You'll be able to capture the perfect photo faster than ever before, and thanks to the f/1.8 wide-angle lens you'll even be able to fit more into one shot. The 7MP TrueDepth camera won't disappoint either, and across both you'll be able to take advantage of Apple's Portrait Mode, Depth Control and excellent bokeh effects to give your photographs a seriously professional look.

4K video is also available, and video stabilisation has been added to the front-facing camera to help keeps things steady when you're vlogging or using FaceTime.

Face ID is faster too, so you can unlock your phone and use Apple Pay in an instant, and the XR's battery promises to last up to 1.5 hours longer than iPhone 8 Plus. The device also comes pre-loaded with iOS 12, meaning you can make the most of Animoji and the brand new Memoji.

iPhone XR will be available to pre-order from on the 19th October 2018. The handset's official release date will be on the 26th October.
