Introducing the Sony Xperia 5 II

Built for speed, designed to be the most compact Xperia yet, and offering 5G connectivity as standard, there's a lot to love about the Sony Xperia 5 II.

Packed with a triple-lens camera co-designed with experts Leica, a long-lasting 4,000 mAh battery and so much more, Android fans are sure to love this device. We take a closer look right here.

Sony Xperia 5 II Design and Display

The Sony Xperia 5 II is a striking handset, crafted from a sleek aluminium frame and covered by durable Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on both the front and back. Thanks to its IP65/68 dust and water resistance rating, you can use the handset confidently while out and about, knowing you're protected from the elements. In fact, this handset can survive in up to 1.5m of water for 30 minutes.

The phone is lightweight at just 163g, and with its 80.9% screen-to-body ratio you can guarantee it'll always feel comfortable in the hand - even if you're using it for an extended period of time. Conveniently located on the side, you'll find a secure and highly responsive fingerprint scanner, while on the bottom there's a 3.5mm headphone jack for those who prefer to plug in, rather than go wireless.

As for the front of the phone, you can expect a fully immersive viewing experience with the handset's 6.1-inch 21:9 CinemaWide Full HD+ OLED display. BRAVIA HDR remaster technology ensures clarity at all times, while Sony's TRILUMINOS tech (found on many of Sony's TVs) really helps colours to pop, and skin tones to appear as natural as possible.

The widescreen design of this phone is fantastic for gamers too. You'll be able to see more of what's going on around you during gameplay, and the added 120Hz refresh rate helps to improve your response time. You'll notice the difference in refresh rate when you're doing everyday tasks: scrolling will feel smoother, transitions will become seamless, and multitasking won't be a problem - you can even split the screen in half and run two apps simultaneously side-by-side on this device.

Sony Xperia 5 II Camera

Partnering once again with experts Alpha, you'll find a trio of 12MP lenses on the rear of this handset. The camera features a 23mm main lens, 70mm telephoto lens aand 16mm wide-angle lens. Combined with Leica's anti-reflective coating and the exclusive Sony Camera Pro app, you'll have complete control of your camera settings - and you'll be fully equipped to shoot in any light.

Real-time eye tracking is available for both animals and humans, automatically focusing on the subject of your photo, so you don't have to waste time tapping the screen and potentially missing the perfect moment. Macro shots and bokeh photos are all made possible by the telephoto lens, while HDR ensures over-exposure won't ruin photos taken in bright light. On the front, meanwhile, there's a 8MP selfie lens for all your video calling needs.

The rear camera system can record up to 4K resolution for blockbuster quality video. The ability to shoot in 120fps is a smartphone first, and means you can capture slow-motion video with outstanding quality. To enhance your homemade movies further, Sony has added a unique wind filter to ensure sounds are never distorted, even when filming in difficult outdoor conditions.

Sony Xperia 5 II Power

The device is 5G-ready so you can take advantage of next-generation network speeds, faster downloads and reduced latency. With 8GB RAM, a high-spec Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and an octa-core CPU working away behind the scenes, you can expect an all-round enhanced mobile experience that keeps up with the demands of 5G.

Android 10 will be running on the handset straight out of the box, with an Android 11 upgrade expected upon its release. Google Assistant is available as well - there's even a dedicated Google Assistant button on the side of the handset.

Sony Xperia 5 II Battery

The 4,000 mAh battery powering the Sony xperia 5 II is fully capable of keeping you powered up while you game, stream and video call friends and family, and with Sony's intelligent Adaptive Charging technology working away behind the scenes, your battery will never be overworked or overcharged.

Powering up is easy too. Capable of Fast Charging 21W, you can reach 100% in less than an hour. Using the 18W charger included in the box, the device can also reach 50% in just 30 minutes.
