If you need a good-quality phone you can rely on, the Doro 6520 is a really affordable good choice. Despite the low price though, the 6520 comes packed with great technology.
There’s a 2.8-inch screen that has a good resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, and a 2MP camera for taking snaps and recording high-quality videos. On the storage side of things, there’s 75MB of memory, which can be expanded to up to 32GB if you get hold of an inexpensive micro SD card. Even then, the on-board flash memory will give you plenty of space to store pictures, videos and contacts.
The removable battery is also good, weighing in at 800 mAh and giving you around eight hours of talk time and nearly 40 hours of standby charge – perfect if you’re the sort who doesn’t want to be permanently attached to the charging cable.
While lots of phones these days are smartphones with touch-screen displays and smooth or no buttons, the Doro 6520 instead has opted for a classic flip phone design. It’ll be a hit with anyone who doesn’t need the latest smartphone features and prefers older, more familiar mobile designs.
This also means the screen is protected when it’s in your pocket or bag, and the plastic casing is perfectly sturdy, coping with accidental knocks and bruises. The case is easy to hold, and has a soft touch coating for better grip.
Inside, there’s a classic pad of buttons that’s easy to use and navigate, as well as speed dial buttons for getting in contact with friends or family members. There’s also an assistance button that, when pressed, will send out a text message to up to three people, just in case anything happens.
Doro have long been well-known for producing phones that are perfect for seniors and disabled individuals, and the 6520 continues this focus.
As well as the assistance button, there’s an ICE (in case of emergency) section of the phonebook that can be used to store important info such as medical information and emergency contact details. The phone is compatible with hearing aids and the speakers provide a loud and crisp sound that’s easy to understand. The Doro 6520 is also hearing aid compatible.
There’s an easy-to-read manual included in the box to help get to grips with the phone and its features, and some of the phone’s features can be turned off – the camera, for instance – which can help users streamline learning the device’s quirks as they start out.
