Android 16 vs. 15 Comparison Guide
Each version of Android introduces new tools and features, but it’s not always easy to figure out how they differ. If you’re curious how Android 16 compares to Android 15, we’re here to help.
You’ll find a variety of compatible phones in our extensive Android collection, packed with the defining features of Android 15 and 16.
1 - Improved organisation
Android 15 made great strides in making it easier to read notifications, thanks to its cooldown feature that significantly reduced the number of notifications sent out at one time. Android 16 took this one step further by automatically grouping similar notifications together, rather than producing a randomly assorted list.
As a result, we found it much easier to navigate our notifications in Android 16; everything is neatly arranged and all in one place.
2 - Notifications are smarter
Notifications in Android 16 also support live updates, so you can track the progress of things like taxis and deliveries. This is undoubtedly one of our favourite additions to Android 16, and it was hard to go back to Android 15 where you had to re-open an app or an email every time.
3 - Greater productivity
If you have a large phone display and use it a lot for multitasking, Android 16 enables you to organise and arrange multiple app windows more easily; something Android 15 can’t do. You can also get back to an app window with the taskbar overflow feature, which adds a carousel for easier navigation.
4 – Enhanced accessibility
We have to give Android 16 plaudits for greatly improving accessibility and building on the excellent features of Android 15. The biggest standout is the ability to control hearing aids from your phone, but you can also use your Android handset as a microphone input if needed.
5 – Easier to maintain privacy and device security
Over the past several years, biometric security has become a key way to protect your device’s data. If you enable the Identity Check feature in Android 16, anyone using your phone will be required to do a biometric check – such as a fingerprint – when outside your trusted places.
We also love the Advanced Protection feature, which gathers together all of your security safeguards so you don’t need to search around for them.
Conclusion
Is Android 16 a radical rework of what came before with Android 15? No, but it doesn’t really need to be. So many features and layers have been added to the experience over the years that Google didn’t need to reinvent the wheel.
