Features of Google Gemini
Google Gemini can be utilised in a variety of ways, making it far easier to perform daily and more detailed tasks.
• Multimodal Capabilities - the ability to process more complex queries across text, images, audio and video. You can send an image to Gemini and receive accurate information and context-aware responses
• Advanced Conversational Abilities – a significant improvement from the earlier Google Bard model, Gemini is designed to engage in more natural, free-flowing conversations with the ability to understand context, follow-up questions and user intent more effectively
• Enhanced Search Integration – Gemini can pull in real-time information from Google Search, delivering more accurate, relevant and up-to-date responses
• Personalised Responses – the more you use Google Gemini, the better it can understand your tone and adjust how it responds to make conversations feel more personalised. This feature significantly improves the user experience by making Gemini more useful over time
• Language Translation – Gemini helps with communication between people who speak different languages. Its real-time translation capability provides an easier and more efficient way to collaborate and engage with people all over the world, using voice, camera and screen context
• Task Automation – Gemini can boost productivity and allow you to focus on other tasks. This includes creating reminders, organising schedules, summarising documents and helping manage everyday workflows
Versions of Google Gemini
Google Gemini has several free and paid versions available, all with different features:
• Gemini Flash – available for free, can generate images and suggest intelligent edits. The speech model can also better understand mood and communication style. Newer Gemini 2.5 Flash models also improve reasoning and multimodal capabilities.
• Gemini Nano – provides a clear understanding of images and what’s in them, as well as understanding of speech and text. Can summarise messages and emails
• Gemini Pro – available as part of the paid Gemini Advanced subscription. Considerably more powerful, with the ability to analyse videos and find information you need from them
• Gemini Ultra – possesses extremely advanced understanding of audio, image and text. Can also assist with coding and complex mathematical formulas
How does Google Gemini compare to other AI?
Here is a comparison of how Google Gemini differs to other AI systems.
ChatGPT
Google Gemini is a multimodal system designed to understand text, images, audio and video, utilising tools like Google Search to provide real-time responses. ChatGPT doesn’t pull data in real time and can only access data up to a certain point (unless you have a ChatGPT Plus subscription).
Galaxy AI
Galaxy AI performs similar functions to Google Gemini such as live translation, but it’s exclusive to Samsung Galaxy phones.
Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence is free to use for iPhone users and has a number of useful generative features such as Genmoji and Image Wand. However, it doesn’t include more complex features found in Gemini such as support when coding.
