The Google Pixel 4a is the latest addition to the already popular Google Pixel family.
You'll find plenty of well-loved Pixel features, like a powerful single-lens camera and an easy-to-use interface, on the Google Pixel 4a. Discover everything you need to know right here.
Google Pixel 4a Design and Display
Just 8.2mm wide, with a smooth polycarbonate unibody, the Pixel 4a is a pleasure to use. Under 6 inches tall, it fits perfectly in one hand, and thanks to an impressive 83% screen-to-body ratio, you can benefit from a larger screen without having to put up with a bigger handset - ideal for fans of slightly smaller smartphones.
In fact, the handset has a vivid, edge-to-edge 5.8-inch OLED display that supports up to 16 million colours. You can stream, game and scroll through socials in Full HD+, while the innovative 19:5:9 aspect ratio is a brilliant size for anyone wanting to watch films on the move.
Google's Always On display feature will be activated as soon as you unbox the handset too, meaning you'll always be able to view the time, date and important notifications without having to wake the device. Music fans will also love the Now Playing function; part of the Always On display offering, if you ever want to know what song is playing around you, just glance at the phone. It'll automatically bring up the song title and artist, so you're never left in the dark.
Google has made sure this device can take more than its fair share of bumps and scratches, creating the screen from resilient Corning Gorilla Glass 3. As for unlocking the phone, you'll find a responsive fingerprint scanner conveniently located on the back of the handset. Just tap it for secure access.
Google Pixel 4a Camera
Whether you're a frequent selfie taker or you prefer to get out there and shoot beautiful landscape shots, the Google Pixel 4a comes equipped with powerful camera tech to take great smartphone pictures.
On the rear, Google has installed a single-lens 12.2MP camera, complete with auto focus and dual-pixel phase detection. HDR+ will enhance every photo you take too, adjusting the colour and lighting to make sure you're always left with natural-looking, vivid pictures. You won't have to worry about losing details when shooting in broad daylight, and with both optical and electrical image stabilisation, keeping your subject in focus - even in videos - will never be an issue.
Google's applauded Night Sight feature is also available. Designed to make shooting in low-light environments - or even complete darkness - possible, photos taken in the evening will be full of colour and detail. In fact, with Astrophotography mode, you can even capture the beauty of the night's sky, and take pictures of the Milky Way with this smartphone.
Prefer to photograph something a little bit closer to home? If you regularly take photos of your friends - or get them to take pictures of you for Instagram - you'll need to switch on Portrait Blur. With this enabled, you can add a professional-looking bokeh effect to your images, either before, during or after you press the shutter button.
Meanwhile, at the front of the phone there's an 8MP camera with an 84-degree field of view. Thanks to its wider angle, you won't need to stretch your arm out to get the perfect shot.
Google Pixel 4a Power
Ensuring the Google Pixel 4a runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, Google has included an advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G chipset inside the phone, alongside an octa-core CPU. The on-board Adreno 618 graphics processing unit ensures transitions are always seamless too, and it'll be a welcome addition for keen smartphone gamers.
As you'd expect, the handset runs on the latest Android operating system: Android 10. An added ARCore makes augmented reality features possible, and the new Google Assistant is more responsive than ever before. You'll be able to use the popular Google Lens as well: just point the camera at an object to unlock the feature. Whether you want to translate text into a different language, learn more about a flower in your garden or find opening times for a café you've just walked past, Google Lens can help.
Google Pixel 4a Battery
If it's all-day power you're looking for, then you can put your trust in the Google Pixel 4a. Hidden from view, there's a 3,140 mAh battery fuelling the handset, and thanks to Google's intelligent Adaptative Battery technology, you'll be able to get even more out of one full charge.
Analysing how you use your phone over time, Adaptive Battery has been designed to learn what your favourite apps are, and limit power to those you rarely use. Apps running in the background won't be able to drain your battery life either, so the percentage available will always be an accurate representation of how much power you have left.
And when the time does come to plug the handset back in, 18W fast charge will boot it back up to 100% in next to no time.
