Introducing the new Apple iPad Air

Joining the new iPad and iPad Pro, Apple showcased the iPad Air (4th generation) during its September Event for 2020. Bringing an incredible all-screen design, super-fast A14 Bionic chip and support for both the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, there's a lot to love about this new tablet.

Take a look at Apple's 2020 iPad Air in more detail, and discover everything you need to know, below.

iPad Air Design and Display

The iPad Air is available with Wi-Fi connectivity only, or both Wi-Fi and Cellular connectivity. Whatever you decide to go for, you will find identical specs across the board - with a small exception. Staying true to its name, both models are super lightweight, but the Wi-Fi only version weighs in at 458g while the Cellular model is marginally heavier at 460g.

Weight aside, the iPad Air has been created with a stunning all-screen design. Stretching from edge-to-edge to give you as much space as possible to play graphics-heavy games, stream shows or get creative with Apple's very own ProCreate, you can enjoy Quad HD+ quality on the 10.9-inch LED-backlit, Liquid Retina display. The screen comes with Apple's signature True Tone technology, and thanks to the finger-resistant oleophobic coating and added anti-reflecting coating, you will always be able to see what you're doing with absolute clarity.

The iPad Air is available in five different finishes, and features stereo speakers on the top and bottom for immersive audio. There's a Touch ID button at the very top of the device too, and your classic volume buttons at the side. The tablet also supports Apple's Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil 2nd generation (both sold separately). You can even attach the Apple Pencil to the top of the device, so you'll always have to hand when you need it the most.

iPad Air Camera

Located on the rear, there's a high spec 12MP Wide camera that comes with a number of specialised photography features. As well as being able to take Live Photos, Panoramas and Bursts, you'll find the rear camera also uses Smart HDR, Auto Image Stabilisation, Noise Reduction and both Auto Focus and Tap to Focus to help you shoot the best possible picture in any environment.

The rear camera can also shoot in outstanding 4K, as well as 1080p HD. There's support for Slow-mo video, and a time-lapse feature so you can really unleash your creativity. Continuous autofocus and noise reduction means you'll never have to worry about blurry footage, and if you'd like to grab a thumbnail from your video to share on socials you can when filming in 4K.

The 7MP ront FaceTime HD camera has everything you need to make HD video calls or even take striking selfies. Retina Flash and the built-in backside illumination sensor make sure your best side is always showing too.

iPad Air Power

Fuelled by Apple's most advanced chip yet, the iPad Air is more powerful than ever before. The A14 Bionic chip ensures this tablet can handle even the most demanding tasks, be it graphics-heavy games, the latest AR tech or anything else you can think of. Multi-tasking is a breeze too, particularly when you realise the A14 Bionic Chip is combined with Apple's next-generation Neural Engine, which delivers a 40% faster CPU, 30% faster graphics and 2x faster machine learning.

The device is available in two sizes: 64GB or 256GB, supports Apple Pay and is capable of both video and audio calls when connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network. Of course, Apple's AI assistant Siri is on board to help with any tasks, and the device runs on iPadOS 14 straight out of the box. Among a number of amazing features, iPadOS 14 brings several new updates to the Apple Pencil (including the ability to transform handwritten notes to text), redesigned widgets and ARKit4.

iPad Air Battery

Designed to help you work anywhere, at any time, the iPad Air has been equipped with a long-lasting, 28.6W battery. You can expect to receive up to 10 hours of power when watching video or surfing the web continuously, and when it comes to powering back up the 20W charger in the box will help you reach 100% in next-to-no time.
