iPad Pro 2021 Review
Apple announced the arrival of two new iPad Pro models during its Spring Loaded Event in April: iPad Pro 11" and iPad Pro 12.9" for 2021.
Both devices come loaded with the latest Apple specs, including stunning Liquid Retina XDR displays and the high-spec Apple M1 chip. Powerful, lightweight and compatible with Apple tech like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, there's so much to love about this new tablet. Let's dive in deeper and review the new iPad Pro below.
iPad Pro 2021 Design and Display
The duo of iPad Pro models released in 2021 feature vibrant, immersive screens in two different sizes. Whether you use yours for video editing, drawing on Procreate or it's simply your companion for those everyday admin tasks, you're sure to be impressed with the detail and true-to-life colour produced. The 11-inch iPad Pro has a Liquid Retina IPC LCD display capable of an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz, while the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro takes things up a notch, thanks to its Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED screen, with HDR10 and the same high-speed ProMotion refresh rate.
Apple's True Tone technology is available on both models and both are scratch resistant, feature a sleek aluminium frame with a Thunderbolt port - an advancement from the older USB-C ports. With the Thunderbolt port, connecting to peripherals like external monitors and hard drives is extremely easy.
iPad Pro 2021 Camera
The rear camera on iPad Pro 2021 is a brilliant triple-lens system with a LiDAR scanner. The devices are kitted out with a 12MP wide camera and a 10MP Ultra Wide camera to help you capture all the action in just one shot.
The LiDAR sensor transforms shooting in low-light conditions and opens up a world of possibilities for AR technology. By intelligently measuring how long it takes for light to reflect back from objects in view, it will create a depth map of the space in front of you - unlocking a world of AR apps and features. It enables the rear camera system to quickly focus in darkness too, reducing capture time and helping details pop, even at night.
The front-facing TrueDepth system features a 12MP Ultra Wide lens created specifically for iPad and makes Apple's Centre Stage technology possible. Designed to enhance video calls, Centre Stage uses a much larger 122-degree field of view, making the most of the machine learning capabilities enabled by Apple's M1 Chip to always keep the user in the centre of the frame. iPad Pro 2021 will automatically pan out if it needs to keep you in shot and if there are others joining you on a call, it'll zoom out to make sure everyone is in view and part of the conversation.
As for video, it can record in 4K on the rear and 1080p on the front.
iPad Pro 2021 Power
Perhaps the standout feature of iPad Pro 2021 is the inclusion of Apple's mighty M1 chip. Available previously on Mac, this high-speed chip will bring a huge leap in performance to the device. Alongside an 8-core CPU that delivers up to 50% faster performance, it also includes an 8-core GPU for 40% faster, smoother graphics and a 16-core Apple Neural Engine.
You'll also be able to enjoy 5G, if you pick up a cellular model. Connecting you to next-generation network speeds whenever you're in a supported area, you can automatically take advantage of extremely fast downloads and low latency - a must if you love gaming and you need your response times to be as accurate as possible.
iPad Pro 2021 comes equipped with a four-speaker audio system for stereo sound and both models are compatible with Apple Pencil (2nd generation) and Apple's Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio. There's a 2TB high speed storage limit and, alongside the latest iPadOS 14.5, you'll find classics like Siri, Face ID and Animoji on board.
iPad Pro 2021 Battery
As for battery, Apple has revealed that iPad Pro 2021 is capable of offering up to 10 hours of video or online browsing through Wi-Fi. If you're going to opt for cellular features, one full charge will get you 9 hours instead.
The Li-Po cell is non-removable and capable of 18W fast charging, so you'll never have to wait around long to power your device back up.
