The eagerly-awaited Samsung Galaxy S22 series has launched, and there are three different smartphones in the line-up. Each of these devices varies slightly in terms of specs and features – but while the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22+ share many similarities, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the most premium of the trio. We take a deep dive into the precise differences in further detail below.

Samsung Galaxy S22 & S22+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – Design & Display

First off, let’s take a look at their respective displays. The Galaxy S22 comes in the smallest at 6.1 inches, where the Galaxy S22+ has a slightly larger display at 6.6 inches – but both are equipped with Dynamic AMOLED 2X and Vision Booster technology, for a super clear view whether it’s day or night. The Galaxy S22 Ultra meanwhile sports an even bigger 6.8-inch display, so you can count on an immersive, wide-screen viewing experience, whatever you’re watching. This makes the Galaxy S22 Ultra the perfect choice for users who spend a lot of time catching up with video content on their smartphones.

But while the size of these displays may differ, they’re all capable of an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, so you can count on smooth graphics transitions, whichever device you go for. As well as this, all three phones in the series are made with a durable aluminium frame, and coated with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back for maximum protection. They’ve also been awarded an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, which means they can survive in water up to 1.5m deep, for up to 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy S22 & S22+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – Camera

Asides the display, the camera system is perhaps the biggest way that the Galaxy S22 Ultra differs from the Galaxy S22 and S22+. These two latter handsets feature identical rear cameras, each composed of a 50MP wide lens, 10MP telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. This sophisticated combination of tech allows users to capture everything from detailed close-ups to group shots in perfect clarity, especially with the 120-degree field of view afforded by the ultra-wide lens.

Over on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung has dialed up the emphasis on camera specs even further, with a quad-lens rear camera system. Made up of a 108MP wide lens, two 10MP telephoto lenses and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, it takes smartphone photography to a whole new level. In fact, the 108MP lens has Samsung’s biggest pixel sensor yet, allowing it to draw in light and reduce grain for stunning images, even in low light. This flagship handset is also the only one in the range to come with a built-in S Pen, which proves handy when you’re taking selfies, as you can use it to remotely hit the shutter button when your phone is propped up nearby.

Despite these key variations, every phone in this trio benefits from a range of advanced photography and video software. One especially exciting addition is Director’s View: a videography setting that enables you to line up a shot perfectly. When used in conjunction with dual recording, you can even switch seamlessly between the front and back cameras – or different lenses within the rear camera system – while filming.

Samsung Galaxy S22 & S22+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – Power

In terms of power, the Galaxy S22 series packs a punch with the debut of the fastest chip ever on a Galaxy phone. Each device features a 4nm processor which is more than capable of handling the most complex applications and graphics-intensive games on the market. As mentioned, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is also the first Galaxy phone in the range to feature an S-Pen, and with such a powerful processor behind the scenes, there’s no shortage of ways to channel your creativity – from drawing to annotating documents or editing video footage.

The Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra are all 5G-ready, so you can enjoy the advantages of a speedy 5G connection whenever you’re in a supported area. Plus, every S22 device comes with One UI 4.1 installed and ready to go; this operating system is based on Android 12, and overlaid with Samsung’s unique interface, so you can still enjoy brand-specific features like Bixby personal assistant.

Samsung Galaxy S22 & S22+ vs. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra – Battery

Battery is another place where these three smartphones diverge, each bringing a slightly different capacity to the table. Where the Galaxy S22 has a 3,700mAh battery, the Galaxy S22+ has a larger, 4,500mAh battery to support the increased screen estate, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s is biggest of all at 5,000mAh.

No matter which phone you choose, you won’t need to hang around for long when it comes to powering up. Say goodbye to plugging in overnight and enjoy 25W Super Fast Charging for the Galaxy S22, or 45W Super Fast Charging with the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra – available with the compatible adapters (sold separately). Not to mention, you can transfer power from your smartphone to another device, like your Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Buds, thanks to Wireless PowerShare. Activating this setting is easy – just drag down your quick settings panel, tap on Wireless PowerShare and then place your headphones on the back of your phone, as you would on a wireless charging pad.
