Design

Some of the biggest improvements made to the Galaxy Flip7 are in the design department, which is where the differences are really noticeable. The main screen was increased in size from 6.7” to 6.9”; this might not seem like much, but we appreciated being able to see more when loading up a game or exploring a webpage. The largest difference can be found on the cover screen, which is 4.1” instead of 3.4”.

The result of this increase in size is undeniable, as apps and widgets can be displayed in more detail. The Flip7’s cover screen also benefits from having a much smaller bezel - which contributes immensely to overall immersion – and a faster 120Hz refresh rate.

Z Flip7 Flex Hinge Technology

Aluminium is used once again in the Flip7’s design, granting it exceptional durability against bumps and scratches. Improvements have been made to the phone’s flex hinge, which caught our eye given the folding nature of this handset. The hinge on the Flip7 is reinforced with Armor FlexHinge technology, granting it superior resistance over time to being folded.

Rounding out the design features on the Galaxy Z Flip7, Samsung opted to include IP48 dust and water resistance similar to the Z Flip6. With this rating, the Flip7 can be submerged in water up to 1.5m; however, be mindful around dust as there’s no all-round protection compared to handsets with an IP68 rating for example.

Display

As we explored previously, the display experience on the Z Flip7 has been significantly improved over its predecessor thanks to the larger screens. It’s worth noting that the Flip7’s main display technically has a lower resolution compared to the Flip6, but given that the screen is bigger, you’re still getting fantastic visuals that are further enhanced by technology like HDR10+.

Once again, it’s on the cover screen that we see the starkest difference. Not only is it much larger as we discussed, the resolution was also given a huge boost up to 1048 x 948. For contrast, the Flip6’s cover screen came in at 720 x 748; a night-and-day difference that results in more pixels on the screen and greater detail as a result.

Performance

Interestingly, Samsung decided to move from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset on the Flip6 to a proprietary Exynos 2500 processor here. Performance is excellent with minimal stutter when swapping between apps or playing games, but the difference generation-to-generation is not lightyears ahead.

What’s good to see is the inclusion of 12GB RAM, which helps ease the workload on the processor and keep things feeling smooth. If you like to play games on your phone or frequently take photos, 12GB RAM goes a long way to making the Flip7 an enjoyable phone to use.

Software

The Flip7 benefits greatly from advancements to the One UI interface and Android 16. First off, One UI 8 supports the ability to send AI-generated birthday cards when someone’s big day arrives as part of the Now Brief feature. You can choose from multiple styles and have the AI generate a card for you in that style; handy if you want to do more than just send a ‘Happy Birthday’ text. Now Brief on One UI 8 can also produce parking spot reminders by remembering where you parked, and it’ll also show you a visual reminder if you’re struggling to retrace your steps.

Now Brief Feature on the Z Flip7

Android 16 feels especially at home on the Flip7, particularly with its auto-grouping feature. Rather than sending you notifications in a long list, Android 16 will group similar notifications together to keep everything neat, tidy and organised. This feature really stands out on the Flip7’s cover screen, where space is considerably more constrained.

Cameras

If there’s one disappointment to the Flip7’s camera array, it’s that the hardware is exactly the same as the Flip6. However, it’s hard to come away feeling let down when the cameras are this good to begin with.

Z Flip7 Rear Camera Setup

The 50MP main camera captures photos with exceptional detail, and the 12MP ultra-wide camera is ideal for taking panoramic shots. The Enhanced Nightography mode is a step above previous Nightography features, greatly improving any photo taken in low-light conditions.

We really enjoyed the Dual Preview feature on the Flip7, which intelligently leverages the cover screen to show the subject what the photo looks like before taking the snap. This kind of feature can only be found on Z Flip handsets and is a great selling point for the flip form factor.

Battery

Despite being a slimmer phone than the Flip6, the Z Flip7 actually includes a larger 4,300mAh battery. As a result, you can expect to get more life out of it before needing to recharge.

4300mAh Battery

In terms of charging speeds, the Flip7 supports 25W wired charging and wireless/reverse wireless functionality. 25W isn’t in the big time when it comes to recharge capabilities, but you can still reach 50% in ~30 minutes. If you want a full battery, you can expect to be waiting ~1hr 30 minutes.

Summary

If you have owned a Galaxy Z Flip phone previously and found the screens to be on the small side, the Z Flip7 is a monumental leap forward. Significant increases in display size help make this one of the most immersive flip phones on the market and a must-have for anyone wanting to give one a try.
