With two big Android giants launched at MWC, things got heated. The Galaxy S6 has taken centre stage in typical Samsung style, but will it be outshone by the recently unveiled HTC One M9? Samsung Galaxy S6 vs HTC One M9 design – It’s all about resolution, sound and size

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 show two handsets that sport several similarities in their design. Both feature a premium metallic shell (finally for Samsung fans), octa-core processors with 3GB RAM and an internal memory of 32GB, which can only be expanded upon with the HTC device.

However the similarities abruptly end there. The Samsung Galaxy S6 takes the lead in the visual department by thinning down the body to just 6.8mm while refining the Super AMOLED 5.1-inch display to show off fine detail with 1440 x 2560 pixels, more commonly known as QHD resolution.

The HTC One M9 has a slightly chunky 9.6mm thick body and the Super LCD2 5-inch display has less resolution with 1080 x 1920 pixels. It isn’t all a lost cause though as Super LCD displays perform well under sunlight and consume less power when showing pages with white backgrounds such as internet pages.

HTC has also included its well-known dual front facing speakers once more, bringing unmatched audio quality to its users. So whilst the display might not quity stand up to the S6’s, you can still rely on great audio quality with the HTC handset.

Camera comparison – An even playing field

The Samsung Galaxy S6 features a 16 megapixel camera with tonnes of great features, including a lightning fast load-up time (just 0.7s). Video recording in super high definition 2160p is also included and the forward facing 5 megapixel camera can be used for capturing a selfie or video calling with 1080p recording capabilities.

Ditching the traditional UltraPixel camera HTC smartphones have become synonymous with, the HTC One M9 is sporting a 20 megapixel camera with a dual-tone LED flash for natural colour tones in low light situations. Additionally, the dual flash throws out more light allowing you to photograph your subject at 1.4 times the distance away compared to a single flash setup.

Plenty of HTC trickery is featured, such as simultaneous video and image capture with 2160p video recording, and numerous built-in camera apps. The forward facing camera will be similar to the Samsung’s with UltraPixel technology and 1080p video recording.

Samsung is of course including a box full of its own photography trickery so both of these phones are undoubtedly matched up well on the camera front.

HTC Vs Samsung Features – It’s all about the user interface

Both the One M9 and the Galaxy S6 are powered by Android Lollipop. The key benefits of this new operating system include a new design with 3D effects and circular icons and Lollipop uses far less power and gives you greater control over apps and programs running in the background that have a drain on the battery.

The new Samsung phone will feature a fingerprint sensor for use with Samsung Pay and the fresh and exciting new TouchWiz user interface will include S-Voice, Smart Say, Smart Pause and Smart Scroll. Online Cloud storage with Dropbox is also able to be installed on the latest Samsung smartphone.

Which is better, the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the HTC One M9?

This is a very difficult question to answer at this time. The specifications of each smartphone are very similar yet the user interfaces set them apart. It won’t be too long before we see which device does better on the sales chart, but for now it’s looking like a closely matched race.
